PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS
Personal Encounter With Jesus
Our Faith must be firmly rooted on a concrete and personal encounter with the Risen Lord if we are to withstand life’s tragedies without turning away from the Path. Because “being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a Person, which gives life….a decisive direction’ (Benedict XVI DCE p.1).
Cleopas and his friend in today’s Gospel had believed. But on witnessing the ‘Grave Tragedy of the Cross’, faith became unbearable. Thus, they were downcast and turned away from Jerusalem towards Emmaus until they personally encountered Jesus, who, through his words prepared their hearts to recognise him at the breaking of break. Fired up by this encounter, they quickly returned to Jerusalem as witnesses to the Resurrection.
Let us pray for a personal encounter with Jesus in our daily lives, that on hearing the words of the Eucharist, ‘Behold the Lamb of God…’ we may truly recognise him and be strengthened to witness with courage and conviction. We make our prayers through Christ Our Lord. Amen
God’s Blessings.
